Enjoy Vibrant Colors All Season with Petunia Easy Wave Yellow Seedling Tray

Petunia Easy Wave Yellow is a hybrid Spreading Petunia that brings a burst of color to your garden. Developed by PanAmerican, this cultivar offers early and efficient production, ensuring a long bloom period. With its mounded, spreading habit, this Petunia grows to a height of 6-12″ and spreads between 30-39″ wide. From spring through late summer, you can enjoy the beautiful yellow flowers that adorn this plant.

The Easy Wave series, to which Easy Wave Yellow belongs, is known for its uniformity and moderate vigor. Compared to the original Wave series, the Easy Wave series has a more mounding habit with less spreading. This makes it an ideal choice for retail settings, providing better products to customers for a longer duration. Whether you plant it in combination containers, hanging baskets, or landscape borders, Easy Wave Yellow will brighten up any space. For even more vibrant displays, consider pairing it with Easy Wave Coral Reef and Easy Wave Violet.

  2. Water two to three times a week, or more frequently during drought or when grown in containers.
  3. Fertilize weekly with an all-purpose feed.
  4. Remove plants once cold weather sets in.

General Growing Tips For Your Seedling Tray

For the best results with Easy Wave Yellow, we recommend growing one seedling plug per 1801-cell or 4-inch container, or three to four seedling plugs per 10-inch basket. Create a suitable environment for the plants by using well-drained soil with a pH of 5.5-6.2 and an EC of 1.5-2.0 mS/cm. Moderate feed with 225-300 ppm N is also necessary. Easy Wave Yellow requires 10 hours of daylight to bloom, so make sure to provide the right conditions. Keep daytime temperatures between 61-75 degrees and nighttime temperatures between 57-65 degrees. To encourage branching and control stretching, apply a spray of daminozide seven to ten days after transplanting. Follow up with a drench of flurprimidol or paclobutrazol 7-10 days later and as needed. Please note that temperatures around 50 degrees may delay flowering. Keep an eye out for pests such as aphids, thrips, fungus gnats, shore flies, botrytis, rhizoctonia, and pythium.

Flowering

Easy Wave Yellow blooms with vibrant yellow flowers from spring through summer. This cultivar has good cold tolerance, withstanding temperatures as low as 40 degrees.

Pinching

No pinching is required for Easy Wave Yellow.

Spacing

To ensure adequate airflow and sunlight penetration, space containers accordingly. Keep 8″ of space between cell packs and 4-inch containers, and 24″ of space between 10-inch baskets. Adjust the spacing as needed to provide sufficient circulation in your greenhouse.

Height Control

Easy Wave Yellow responds well to daminozide and paclobutrazol or flurprimidol. Apply a spray of daminozide at 3,500-5,000 ppm seven to 10 days after transplanting to encourage branching and control stretching. After that, apply either a paclobutrazol drench at 3-5 ppm or a flurprimidol drench at 2-3.5 ppm. If necessary, continue to drench with paclobutrazol or flurprimidol. By adjusting temperatures, you can also delay flowering to control crop time.

Pests

As part of your commercial greenhouse’s Integrated Pest Management plan, be on the lookout for thrips, aphids, fungus gnats, and shore flies. These pests can harm your plants and affect their growth. To control infestations and prevent further spread, consider using natural predators like predatory mites, insecticidal soap, neem oil, sticky traps, beneficial nematodes, or Bacillus thuringiensis.

Diseases

Beware of Botrytis, Pythium, and Rhizoctonia, especially during short days and under low light or high humidity conditions. Preventive measures are key in combating these fungal diseases. Practice good sanitation, water plants at the base, and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Additionally, provide good airflow and spacing in your greenhouse to ensure proper circulation. To control the spread of Botrytis, remove and destroy affected plants, maintain appropriate humidity levels, and apply fungicides that contain boscalid, fenhexamid, or iprodione. Fungicides with active ingredients such as abamectin, spinosad, or imidacloprid can help combat Pythium and Rhizoctonia.

Planting Easy Wave Yellow Liners

For optimal growth, we recommend growing one seedling plug per 1801-cell or 4-inch container, or three to four seedling plugs per 10-inch basket. Use well-drained soil and bury the plug centered or evenly spaced in the container. Depending on the cultural conditions and season, cell packs typically finish in 4-7 weeks.

Rooted Cuttings

The size of the cuttings varies between different plant families. The rooted starter plants of Easy Wave Yellow are ready to be transplanted into your final container. If you plan on using them in a landscape application, ensure they are established in a 4-inch pot or an 1801 before planting them outside.

With Petunia Easy Wave Yellow, you can create a vibrant and low-maintenance garden that will impress your customers and bring joy all season long. Enjoy the beauty and versatility of this easy-to-grow plant!
