The Ultimate Guide to Fertilizing Your Ferns

Have you ever wondered how to keep your ferns healthy and vibrant throughout the summer? Do you want to make sure they stay as green as the day you brought them home? Look no further, because I have a foolproof method that will leave your ferns thriving all season long!

Why I Swear By Fish Fertilizer

Fish fertilizer is a game-changer when it comes to nourishing your ferns. Not only is it safe for your children and pets, but it’s also a cost-effective way to strengthen their root system and improve the organic matter in the soil. The best part? The results are immediate! Within 24 hours, you’ll start seeing a noticeable improvement in your ferns’ health.

When to Use Fish Fertilizer

As soon as spring arrives, it’s time to bring your ferns out of the greenhouse and give them a rejuvenating bath in fish fertilizer. To guide you through the process, I’ve created a step-by-step video that you can follow along with. Just make sure to repeat this process once a month throughout the entire growing season, which typically spans from March to November.

The Supplies You’ll Need

To get started, gather these essential supplies:

  • 5-gallon bucket
  • Water hose
  • Alaska Fish Fertilizer

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Before fertilizing, water your ferns deeply to avoid damaging the roots.
  2. Ensure the lid of the fish fertilizer is tightly closed.
  3. Give the fertilizer a few vigorous shakes to mix it up.
  4. Pour enough liquid fish fertilizer into the bottom of the bucket to cover the entire base. Don’t worry about measuring it precisely; the smell might be strong, but it quickly dissipates.
  5. Fill the bucket with water, making sure not to turn the hose on full blast and risk splashing the fertilizer. Gentle water pressure will naturally mix the fish fertilizer with the water, but you can use a yardstick or fallen branch to stir it if necessary.
  6. Slowly pour this mixture over each fern, using one 5-gallon bucket to fertilize three ferns. However, if you have a larger fern like Fronda, give her a whole bucket to herself.
  7. Depending on how many ferns you have, repeat this process five or six times throughout the growing season.

A Few Notes on Fern Fertilization

You might be concerned about the smell, but trust me, it’s worth it. Your ferns will thrive on this liquid gold, turning a deep shade of green right before your eyes. And don’t worry, the smell evaporates within an hour, allowing you to enjoy your patio to the fullest.

If you’re still hesitant, convince your significant other or a small child to help you fertilize the ferns. Once you see the incredible results, you’ll become an avid fan of this fish fertilizer method.
